We run Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS as clean upstream images with full root and a dedicated IPv4, on Vultr, DigitalOcean, Linode and Hetzner. Servers start at $10/mo, bill by the hour, and are paid from a crypto balance.
Ubuntu is the default choice for most server work: the widest package coverage, the most documentation, and the version every deployment guide assumes. It is our default image for that reason.
You get the stock upstream image, not a customised one. Full root from the first minute, a dedicated IPv4, and the same server whichever provider you pick.
Which Ubuntu versions we run
The catalog carries 26.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, 22.04 LTS. The LTS releases are the ones to pick for anything you intend to leave running: five years of security updates and the version most third-party install scripts test against.
Version availability differs by provider, and we do not hide that: the two current LTS releases deploy on all four clouds, while the newest release is available on Vultr only. The create page filters the list for the provider you selected, so you never see a combination that would fail.
LTS or the latest release
Pick LTS unless you specifically need a newer kernel or a package that only ships in the interim release. LTS gets security updates for five years; interim releases are supported for nine months and then need a distribution upgrade.
Because billing is hourly, testing the newer release costs cents: deploy one, check the thing you care about, destroy it. You are not committing to a month to find out.
Ubuntu availability by provider
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and 22.04 LTS deploy on all four providers - Vultr, DigitalOcean, Linode and Hetzner. Ubuntu 26.04 is currently Vultr-only.
This matters when you pick a location: if you want the newest release in a specific city, check that Vultr serves that city. The create page enforces this for you - unsupported combinations are filtered out rather than failing at deploy time.
Plans & hourly pricing
Ubuntu Server itself idles at a few hundred MB, so the $10/mo Micro is enough to learn on. The Starter (1 vCPU, 2 GB) is the smallest plan that comfortably runs a real workload alongside the OS - a web app, a bot, a small database.

Which Ubuntu version should I choose?
An LTS release unless you have a specific reason not to. LTS gets five years of security updates and is what nearly every install guide and package repository targets.
Is the image modified?
No. It is the stock upstream cloud image. We set the root password you choose at deploy time through cloud-init and change nothing else.
Can I upgrade Ubuntu in place?
Yes - do-release-upgrade works normally, you have full root. Take a snapshot first if the server matters; a fresh deploy is often faster than an in-place upgrade anyway.
Do I need a card to deploy an Ubuntu VPS?
No. You top up a balance with crypto and deploy from it. An email address is the only identity we ask for.
